Setting up Throttling

Once a customer has reached their cap it is possible to throttle their connection to a slower speed.

1. Mikrotik Rate Limit:

In order to achieve this

Click => Network

=>Gateway Details

Under Traffic Shaping Bucket

Click => Table View

Search for the bucket you would like to change

Click => Radius Groups button to get the console

Go to RADIUS => Group Reply

Review the list to find a throttled group that will give the customer the desired throttled speed

Click =>Add at the bottom to ensure that a new group called “(name chosen)_throttled” is created

2. Framed Pool:

Should you have a Framed-Pool for throttled customers you will need to add another attribute. This time "Choose from existing groups" and make sure to assign this attribute to the newly created throttled bucket “(name chosen)_throttled”

Now there will be a new group called “(name chosen)_throttled” created with two attributes:

3. For both Mikrotik Rate Limit and/or Framed Pool

You will then need to assign this to the bucket that you have just changed.

In order to achieve this

Click => Network

=>Gateway Details

Under Traffic Shaping Bucket

Click => Table View

Search for the Product

Click => Radius Groups

Click = >Add

Then select the appropriate group “(name chosen)_throttled" and change the type to "Throttled"

Click => Add

The Radius Groups should look something like this

Enable throttling on this bucket

Click => Update Buckets Table at the bottom of the screen
