2024-2Q [Billing] Broadband "Nutrition" Labels
Overview
The Broadband "Nutrition" Label is a standardised label mandated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to provide clear, detailed information about broadband service plans. These labels have two timelines according to the number of subscribers.
By 10 April 2024: Providers with more than 100,000 subscribers must deploy these labels.
By 10 October 2024: Providers with fewer than 100,000 subscribers must comply.
Purpose of Broadband "Nutrition" Labels
Broadband "Nutrition" Labels are designed to offer consumers a clear and concise summary of broadband service details, similar to nutrition labels on food products. These labels aim to make it easier for consumers to compare different broadband plans and make informed decisions.
The labels are part of an FCC initiative to enhance transparency in the broadband market. By providing standardised information, consumers can more easily understand and compare service offerings, thereby fostering a more competitive marketplace.
Where to Include these Labels
Provider's Website:
The labels must be prominently displayed on the provider’s website, particularly on the pages where consumers can view and compare different broadband plans and during the purchase process.
Consumers should be able to easily find and access these labels when researching or buying services online.
Point of Sale:
Labels should be readily available during the online sales process, ensuring transparency and providing all necessary details about the broadband plans before purchase.
In stores, labels can be presented via physical displays, brochures, or QR codes that customers can scan to access detailed information on their smartphones.
