2015-3Q: BILLING: Fixed TAX Fees

This new feature allows operators to define 'Fixed Fees' in the TAX section of customer products, subscriptions and quotes, instead of OR in addition to the traditional route of calculating taxes based on a percentage of the product. The purpose of the "fixed fee" is to allow operators to add a defined tax fee (for example €10.00) on an invoice, usually instead of calculating a percentage of the product in question (example 23% of X amount). However, both the percentage taxes and the fixed fee can co-exist on the product if needed.

In the financial breakdowns the fixed fee will be noted as TAX.

Flat Tax Fees are available under following pages in SIMPLer:

1) Product page as shown in Fig. 1.

If fixed fees are set on the product level (Fig. 1), the operator must move the "Tax Zone" to "fixed" and then proceed with entering the fee manually. Alternatively it can be set by using the "flexible system" where a pre-defined fixed fee can be set (See Fig. 6) This product will have the set fee applied by default when adding to a customer's subscriptions.

2) Product summary page as shown in Fig. 2.

This page shows a summary of the fees applied in point 1)

3) Subscription table as shown in Fig. 3.

Sometimes an operator will prefer not to assign the fee to the product globally, but work on a case per case basis. If so, the fixed fee will be applied at the subscription level (Fig. 3). To avail of the fixed fee the operator could move the "tax zone" to "fixed" and set the fee manually. Alternatively it can be set by using the "flexible system" where a pre-defined fixed fee can be set (See Fig. 6)

4) Custom Invoice page as shown in Fig. 4.

Sometimes an operator will prefer to assign this fixed fee to ONLY one invoice, in this case, it can be done on the custom invoice as shown in Fig. 4. To avail of the fixed fee, while selecting the product to use on the invoice, the operator could move the "tax zone" to "fixed" and set the fee manually. Alternatively it can be set by using the "flexible system" where a pre-defined fixed fee can be set (See Fig. 6)

5) Quotes page as shown in Fig. 5

When generating a quote for a potential purchase, the fixed fee can also be applied. To avail of the fixed fee, while selecting the product to use on the quote, the operator could move the "tax zone" to "fixed" and set the fee manually. Alternatively it can be set by using the "flexible system" where a pre-defined fixed fee can be set (See Fig. 6)

6) Settings - Flexible System - Tax Rates as shown in Fig. 6.

Commonly used "fixed tax fees" can be pre-set on the Settings - Flexible System - Tax Rates page as shown in Fig. 6. A set fee can be entered at the time of adding the tax rate, and the rate can be applied to a product/subscription/invoice/quote by using the flexible system.

NOTE: The fixed fee is commonly used alone, without any extra percentage calculation applied, although both can be used if necessary. Please make sure to verify the invoice/financial reports to be sure the desired results are achieved when using this feature.
